Why my Dentist need X-rays?

DENTAL X-RAYS AT YOUR DENTIST

Dental X-Rays taken by your dentist help detect and spot early signs of decay, gum disease and other underlying oral problems and complications. Detecting and diagnosing dental problems before they get worse can save money, reduce discomfort, and improve the quality of your life.

Our dentists at Heritage Dental Group use digital x-rays which emit far less radiation than the traditional x-rays. Dentist will only take diagnostic x-rays to check your teeth if any issues are suspected. Our latest digital x-ray technology ensures minimal exposure to radiation and is safe. Your dentist will take x-rays for the comprehensive examination of your mouth.

INTRAORAL X-RAYS are the most common type of dental x-rays. The x-ray film is placed inside your mouth.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD VISIT THE DENTIST?

Dr Singh recommends your child should have their first dental check-up by their first birthday. Dental check-ups pick up any abnormalities or tooth decay at this age. Dental check-up is as important as general health check. Usually, 6-12 monthly dental check-ups are recommended. Children who are at high risk of tooth decay may need more frequent dental visits.

Dry Socket Pain

What is dry socket (Alveolar Osteitis)?

Dry socket is a common complication of tooth extraction. It can be a quiet painful experience, but it can be easily treated by your dentist. Usually, dry socket happens when the blood clot at the site of the tooth extraction fails to develop, or it dislodges or dissolves before the wound has healed. It leaves the bone exposed to air, food, and fluids. The blood clot limits the bleeding in the area after tooth extraction and lays a foundation for new bone and tissue in the area. Dry sockets can often delay the healing process.

Diabetes and Your Dental health

DIABETES AND DENTAL HEALTH

Taking care of your dental health is important when you have diabetes. Looking after your teeth and gums and managing your blood glucose levels can help reduce the risk of dental problems like gum disease and tooth decay.

HOW CAN DIABETES AFFECT MY TEETH AND GUMS?

If your blood glucose is above the target range, it increases the risk of getting tooth decay and gum disease or infections. You may suffer from dry mouth or more glucose in your saliva which can lead to plaque build up on your teeth – a sticky film consisting mostly of bacteria. These bacteria produce acids which can damage the surface of the teeth, leading to tooth decay and gum disease. Gum disease can take longer to heal if you have diabetes.

Proper brushing and flossing help protect your teeth and gums. Along with good oral hygiene, visiting your dentist 6-12 monthly is recommended.
