WHAT IS A DENTAL EMERGENCY?

Any dental problem that requires immediate treatment in order to save the tooth, alleviate severe pain, treat a dental infection or stop ongoing tissue bleeding is considered a dental emergency. If any of the following issues occurs, it is important to contact us immediately and see our dentist at Heritage Dental Group.

DENTAL EMERGENCY CAN INCLUDE:

  • Toothache
  • Broken, chipped or loose tooth
  • A tooth being knocked out
  • Sports injuries
  • infections or post surgery complications

KNOCKED OUT TOOTH

If you or your child have knocked out their tooth, stay calm and hold the knocked tooth by the crown, do not scrape away any tissue fragments and wash the tooth clean with milk. You can also try to gently hold it in place in the tooth socket. If not possible in case of children, keep the tooth moist either by immersing it in milk, sealing in the plastic wrap or placing it in person’s mouth next to the cheek (if adult). Contact dentist at Heritage Dental Group immediately for an emergency appointment as it is critical to save the tooth on time. If dentist is not available (weekends or public holidays), contact the nearest Hospital or call 000.

ABSCESS

If you have an abscess near  your tooth, it is a localised infection that usually forms at the root of the tooth, surrounding area and teeth. This painful condition can damage tissue and surrounding teeth if left untreated. Rinse your mouth with warm salty water to help alleviate the discomfort and see our dentist at Heritage Dental Group immediately.

CHIPPED, CRACKED OR BROKEN TOOTH

First, rinse your mouth with some warm water. If you experience or see any swelling, use ice pack on the outside of the mouth to reduce swelling. Your dentist will examine the tooth, take an x-ray of the tooth and the surrounding area, and explain the severity and what can be done to save the tooth. It is always better to see you your dentist as soon as possible.

TOOTHACHE OR SORE TOOTH

If you are experiencing toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water and use ice pack to reduce swelling. Clean your teeth and use floss to clean in between your teeth to remove any food particles caught in between teeth. Ask your pharmacist for over the counter pain medication. Do not put aspirin directly on the tooth or gums as it may burn your gums. See our dentist at Heritage Dental Group as soon as possible.

LOST FILLING, CROWN OR BRIDGE

If you have lost a part of filling or tooth or crown, there can be few reasons like developing decay underneath a filling or crack in the tooth or filling. In this case your tooth may feel sensitive to hot or cold. Our dentist at Heritage Dental Group will be able to fix it with a new filling or a crown. Consult your dentist to resolve the issue asap.
