Summer Tips for Healthy Teeth

Summer tips

LOOKING AFTER YOUR ORAL HEALTH

While you are enjoying the summer holidays, Christmas and new year season, teeth are the last thing you want to worry about. We all love ice-cream, ice-blocks and chilled drinks to beat the summer heat. Here are few tips to help you fully enjoy your Christmas and summer while staying safe and looking after your oral health.

  • Keep Hydrated Keep hydrated, choose water over sugary drinks, soda or juice. There is a higher chance of getting dental decay when you have a dry mouth. By drinking lots of water every day you are helping to prevent tooth decay and you are also keeping your skin and gums healthy and moist.
  • Protect your smile– We recommended using a proper mouthguard while playing contact and outdoor games like soccer or basketball. Broken and cracked teeth are the most common sports injury. And always ask your dentist for the best fit custom mouthguard for you and your kids.
  • Change your toothbrush– Has it been 3 months since you last changed your toothbrush? This is the best time to get a new toothbrush for you and your family. For best results we recommend the usage of electric toothbrushes.
  • Protect your lips– Wear lip balm with SPF15+, with constant sun exposure your lips can get damaged, putting you at the risk of skin cancer and don’t forget the rest of your body.
  • Choose your snacks wisely, avoid sugars– With the festive season we all tend to dig into sticky treats, cakes, sugary and acidic drinks with family and friends. Try to choose healthy snacks like fresh fruits, nuts and cheese. Always try to rinse your mouth with water after having acidic and sweet foods.
  • Don’t forget to brush and floss– Establish a good morning and evening routine for kids and yourself to brush and floss daily. Choose the right toothbrush and toothpaste. Brushing tips
  • Have a regular dental check-up-Last but not the least, have you and your family had their dental check-up this year? Make regular dental follow up appointments. With summer holidays, you will have more time to go and see your dentist and if there is any problem, get it sorted before Christmas. What’s involved in a dental check up?

Regular six-monthly check-ups can detect any issues you may have and prevent it from getting worse. And we all love a white bright smile and fresh clean teeth.
